Cocoon Grid-It! DIY Clone

My friend told me about the Cocoon Grid-It! and I though it is quite a good concept.
It comes in various sizes, from separate pieces to gadget pouches integrating them. However The cost is justifiable but cheap means to ship to Singapore. There is only one store selling in Singapore AFAIK which is NBC @ Bugis Junction.
So I decided to clone it. I got a clipboard from Daiso of a size that I want (I want a small one), and some elastic bands from mama-shop. The bands will be sewn onto the board and small holes will need to be drilled on the edges to allow sewing. Firstly, I removed the clip from the clipboard as I only wanted a flat board.
Laying out the holes placement on Illustrator, I printed the template and briefly stuck it to the clipboard. Using my Proxxon rotary tool with flexishaft (sorry but I'm not a Dremel supporter here), I drilled those 1mm holes easily.
The edge of the bands are folded in to prevent fraying and then sewn on. My sewing sucks so it ain't very neat.
Works fine. Mine can be used on both sides of the board where the original can only be used on one. I went to see the actual product at NBC Bugis and realised that their so call grippy bands are not that grippy after all. Been using my own clone for a few days and it works fine. Although the stitches are not neat, they seem to be strong enough.
I intend to use it ONLY for small loose objects in my bag, which means to say the camera in the pics are for show only. I mainly use it to put my thumbdrives, receipts, a pen, spare batteries etc.
