Bad Dream

I was inside a classroom. Its unusually quiet. I cant remember which classroom was it, some parts of the classroom looked familiar to me. I was wearing grey top blue bottom..am i wearing AJ uniform? Why am i doing here? Sitting beside me is this classmate who used to sit in my physics class.

Suddenly i remembered, im a disrupted soldier or some sort in army. Meaning to say i served army halfway and then join back to school.

I ransacked through my familiar blue Shayer bag, i found my clear slotting file. Inside its dirty and dusty, the ends of the file seemed be tattered from wear and tear, the clear surface are stained with mud and a layer of unknown stick substance. All the usual worksheets...tutorials...lectures are inside. Some are A4 size that matched the file. Others are cut outs. Some are newspaper pieces.

The lesson went on and on, but no matter how i dun seem to catch what the lecturer said. Suddenly i feel that everyone is forcing on me. Everybody is jeering at me. Everyone seemed to cast me at one side. I can feel the depression and fear i once felt, the feeling when everyone treats u like a plague carrying rat. Strangely, these negative sensation were gone once i entered army. That may be the cause of me saying i would rather go army than repeat my studies again.

Im very confused. I see lots of tutorials in front of me. I see GP, i see math. No matter how i try i just cannot complete. I switched to doing other work, but the results were similar. Everyone else was like shaking their leg and resting in silence, all seemed to had completed their work long ago. Finally i decided to gave up and shuff everything into my folder.

A bell rang and everyone walked out of the classroom like cold corpse. They went out of school to a junction and crossed the traffic light. Is school over? Why is everyone leaving? I cannnot remember the time table anymore, i opened my bag and searched my folder for my time table. Its no where to be found. I took out lots of sheets of paper, which seems to be fragmented pieces of the time table. Its not that they were torn pieces from the time table, but rather, on each page, only certain time slots were printed and imcomplete. Come how the time table liddat? The text on the papers started becoming blurry..as if they purposely did not want me to know the the schedule. What happened?

After some time, a skinny guy whom i knew in school came to me and grabbed me on my throat. He used to me some martial art expert, but why is he doing this to me? I saw my bag on the ground and wanted to reach for it when he pulled me away and locked my neck with this elbow.

"Try to throw me off!"

I struggled, attempting to loosen his grip and pushed him aside, but the resistance was futile.

"ALL YOUR TECHNIQUES WERE WRONG! HAHAHAHA"

I remb i was going to faint when another friend of mine in AJ showed me. He was one of the better-to-to-with guys. "What are u doign here?" He asked. I turned back to point at my attacker and realised he vanished. I was, again, standing next to my Shayer bag.

I told him im looking for my time table and ask he he could lend me his. He laughed and asked why dint i went to take my lunch. I told him i intend to take my lunch at a nearby hawker center once i found my time table. "But class is starting soon you know?" He replied. I thought class ended? But i dun want to go back to the class again! I picked my bag and dashed into the junction...

I woke up. I scanned around. Im in my room. Was i dreaming? Eh wait, even if i distrupt i dun go back to JC again. I completed JC liao and not going to retake my A's. Ya, i took leave today from army. Its a monday morning where im suppose to have lunch w my mom. Suddenly all the bad memories from school flashed back into my head like data recovery. I shook off the ideas and got off my bed to my PC..and jotted down everything in this blog of mine before i forget my dream.

Path To Quit

PART ONE - Introduction

Im going to quit selling cables and mini3. At first i said i will retire in Dec. Now maybe I will retire early. Why? cos im very pissed off liao.

IMHO, an audio noob is not someone who dun posses hearing/product/technical skills and knowledge, but someone who follows blindly, unable to judge and make decision for himself, lack of open-mindedness, and fail to think maturely and deeper.

I dint say im not a noob. But there are lots of 'noober' ppl around.

PART TWO -Fail To Ask Intelligent Questions

Most of my customers are students, people with very low purchasing power. Thus i often have to reduce the pricing to suit them, but thats ok, as long as i earn. Earning less is better than earning none. Im kind enough to let them add me to MSN and query about stuffs, but most of them are just spamming stupid questions.

Im sure in school we are taught to ask questions, not just any questions but intelligent ones. In AJC im often thrown into a situation where the teacher will tell me to "go do Self Directed Learning". Although im not positive about Singapore's Education System, but im sure, more or less, you will learn some self-studying skills in school. Examples are like how to do research, how to look for info and not being spoon fed by teachers all the time. Some questions are obvious, and can be answered by thinking deeper. Others can be found by Googling.

Its understandable that in school you would like to be spoon fed, cos perhaps u just wanna get that range of required knowledge and pass your test and fuck it. But now this is a hobby, a hobby of audio, its not force upon you. And if you cant even bother to study up on your hobby..then might as well dun keep it!

PART THREE - Examples Of Stupid Questions

Some examples of lousy questions:

"so whats the difference between silvermax and fuze?"
"isit as good as the SM-i?"
"can recommend me one for my UM2?"
"I want lower my bass on my Voyager, can tell me which?"
"why u use neutrik plugs?"
"why u tube some of the cable and not some?"
"can bend how much? Does bending more than this angle affect quality?"
"i dun think i can afford.." [when i told him to quote FREELY...then i will readjust the price. cant they understand english?]
"have u heard ____ amp? How u compare to mini3?"
"Between hornet, iQube and ibasso D2, where would u rank mini3?"
"isit good to double amp?"
"how to get better ipod LOD?"
"do u sell better 9v battery? Why u dun have ______ brand battery? Whats the difference? Which is better?"
"powerex and accupower battery whats the diff?"
"why min3 capacitor so small?"
"why mini3 not using black gates?"
"whats the diff between the normal and switchcraft jacks?"
"whats switchcraft?"
"I no money afford mini3...but i just bought the xmod!"
"Is amazon a good place to buy earphones?"
"The HybridMAX Pro is better than the Revenge isit?"

PART FOUR - My Gold Rules

Here are three important points to take note regarding audio products:

1. Most of the time, its difficult to determine if one audio product is good or bad, since personal preference places a major role on your perception of a product. Its also difficult to rank these products.

2. Text is a poor medium to describe sound, if u want to know how it sounds, come down to try it

3. The price, frequently, is not proportionate to your perception of its quality. Read point 1.

Here are another four important point to take note when asking questions:

A. Google (or research with any search engine you like) first before asking. Go brush up on your searching skills.

B. You may ask questions, but please dun spam lots of questions in one go. This will result in me ignoring you or deleting you from my contact list.

C. Both eyes and both hands are required to type. But only one ear and one mouth are required to talk on phone/skype. Call me if u want to ask questions. Skyping would be the best. In that way i can do other things and tok at the same time.

D. Consolidate all your questions into one pile, email me if you want, dun now ask 1 question, 5 minutes later another, 10 minutes later another etc.. And the next day the cycle repeats.

PART FIVE - The Answers To Stupid Questions

Point 1, 2, 3, A, B, C, D are from PART FOUR - My Gold Rules.

Question: "whats the difference between [one product] and [another product]" OR
"between [one product] and [another product] which is better?" OR
"how would u rank [one product] and [another product]?"

Answer: Refer to point 1 and 2. Refer to point B as well, dun expect me to give u a ranking and reference to all available products. Asking about what new features it has and how it sounds like generally would still be fine, but not to the extend to asking me to compare with 4 or 5 other products.

Question: "Would you recommend [a product]?"

Answer: If its my product, i will definitely recommend the most exp one. Of course I wun recommend other's product. Isnt that one of the most basic of business?

Question: "Why is the design of [a product] liddat and not liddat?" OR
"Why u use [a material] on [a product]?"

Answer: Mini3 is not designed by me, dun ask me. For my cables, unless u are willing to pay more for a custom design and materials, the current design is already set. Why i chose that particular design and material is cos i feel its good and save cost. If u so pro, go do it yourself. Construction recommendations are welcomed though. Why is Coca Cola black and not white?

Question: "Why [a technical question]?"

Answer: For technical question, i have a limited knowledge. Im perfectly fine if you want to discuss technical stuff with me, but please read Point A, B and C. Go read up on your questions before asking.

Question: "Where to buy [a product/part]?"

Answer: If i know, i tell you. If i dunno or i dun want to reveal, i will tell you that i have no idea. Simple. If i tell that you something can be bought online, please read Point A. Dun ask me to help you purchase items online, unless u are one of my old kakis. Go apply for POSB Debit card, lazy to apply or dunno how apply is not an excuse. FIY its damn cheap and the fees could be waviered under certain conditions.

PART SIX - The Other Irresponsible Customers

First, Long consider timing. They consider a purchase for damn long and give no answers. If u dun intend to buy then just say so. And not keep me waiting for weeks, pending your orders.

Second, asking for price multiple times. Its ok to ask for price once or twice if u are seriously considering a purchase. But some just keep asking and trying out all combination. "What if i buy A and B together? Hmm what if i buy A and C together? What if i buy A and B and C? Hmm what if me and my friend buy (when his friend has no or little intention of purchase)?"

Third, backing out after order confirmation. I got one Msian customer, a working adult. I told him more than once you cannot cancel your orders once confirmed. And on that day i went to collect the stuff from my distributor, he told me that he wish to cancel his mini3 order, because he wants to buy a second hand 2move for $250 (VS $160 for first hand mini3). Reason not being he likes the sound, but cos 2move is made in germany. A few weeks later, he sold his 2move, saying that the sound is not his cup of tea, and then tell me he may want the mini3 again. WTF?

Forth, not paying up. Typical WK case, sell him cable, rush for him to be delivered on the weekend, end up give lousy excuses and not paying up. His gf paid for him first.

PART SEVEN - My Fault

Though i blame some my customers for being irresponsible and irritating, there are some really nice ones. Some which are responsive and helpful, some which gave constructive comments and some who appreciate my service.

Im at wrong too. Namely:

1. There is no common place where my customers can refer to for problems, questions and product updates. I may be considering buying hosting services and setting up a web page with FAQ for this purpose.

2. I keep on coming out w new products and left the old ones hanging there, making lots of confusions. Im going to choose three of the best products that will cover a wide price range and scrap the rest.

3. My schedule is tight, i dun have much choices of meet up timings for my customers. I dun have a shop, my customers cannot drop by to audition and purchase, but stuck to fixed meet up timings.

4. Im too impatient, i got too much things to do, i just get pissed when im bombarded with lots of questions and queries.

5. My knowledge is limited, im not able to provide much of correct technical information.

PART EIGHT- Conclusiont

In short, im going to quit this hobby soon. How soon? I dunno yet. I said Decemeber the last time but now it seems that im going to close shop earlier.

When i say i quit this hobby, it means

1. Im not going to actively do researches, but here and there i may try some new stuff if im bored or bump into something interesting

2. Im not going to actively promote my business (ie make advert, post in forums etc)

3. Im not going to actively keep up with new products and info in the audio scene.

4. It will depend on my mood if i want to sell anything or not.

5. Even if i do sell u stuff, pricing will be fixed. No negotiating, unless i feel like giving u discount.

6. I wun spend unnecessary time answering questions, queries, bargins and entertaining customers

7. I will still provide service for myself and my good friends though.

8. I may be back in business sometime later on, if i do, this time it should be much more properly planned and executed.

9. Those suggestions in PART SEVEN may or may not be implemented.

10. Nothing is fixed and confirmed.

Hello World (Ugly)

While the world remains ugly, I have been pretty busy. So instead of blogging little bit each time, i collate everything and make one long post. Newsletter? Haha maybe. From year 2005 till now, my blog had survived the not so smooth route that was steered by me. From the infamous AJC sex tok to recent incident of being asked to edit my entry cos someone was over sensitive to a non-identifiable subject, this blog had served me well. ZOMBiE Destinee is a communication tool, a companion as well as a workbook of life.

Personally..Im starting to tune down my DIY work. Eventually Im 'retiring' when i ORD. Experiments and researches are endless. Even though practical is important, theory is as well. Im going to brush up on electronics theory, as least get the basic ones right first. Should get more targeted experimental materials rather than anyhow hantam everything. That will waste more money. I think Im not resourceful enough, I haven seen enuff and exposed to enuff stuff yet. Thats most prolly cos i dun have time. By the time i book out its already quite late. All shops closed liao.

I need to kick away my bad habit for being late also. Guess its not right to let my friends wait for me all the time.

And yea im going to lose weight! but after ORD hahaha. But i doubt it will be successful lor..hehe.

This is what i found in SLS. Something which i always needed - a handsfree for my handphone. The good thing about this is that i can attach my own choice of earphone to it. It has a mic built in liao, so i can use my earphone on it. I can choose to use a more superior iem to obtain better isolation and SQ than the regular one that Nokia provides. instead of carrying two earphone around (one i use for my portable rig, another for handsfree), i just need one. I can detach my TriFi on my D2 and hook up to my Nokia if i need. I dun use handsfree often so swapping them should not be a chore.

I use handsfree mainly in MRT, where i need isolation from earbuds or iem to hear what the other party is speaking. Honestly, under the current situation, most of the conversation details are lost when one side is on a train.

Hmm..see the pic below..ultimate calling machine? Haha.. BTW my phone got no music player nor FM radio. Haha..Use ESW9 just to listen to call.

NDS Games Harvesting Season!

Lots of games in the month of August/September to keep me occupied for a while. Portable gaming seemed to my past time if im not doing my soldering work.

Inspired by Phoenix Wright, Time Hollow is a story based game that is filled with rich 2D anime-like scenes and characters, depicting an incident of this boy where he get hold of the Hollow Pen, where he would be able to amend the past that had been screwed up by a shady character taking revenge.

Lock's Quest is a game expanded and elaborated from Tower Defense. Now not only there is RPG element, more enemies who can destroy your towers, Lock can also obtain skills and magic that can fight alongside with the turrets from your towers. The storyline is straight forward with elements of surprise, as well as side games and missions to break the usual game pattern.

Yet to really go into Sonic Chronicles, it seems to be an adventure story based version of the usual run-and-collect Sonic games. Lots of RPG and actions.

Turn Base Strategy game. The story was well ported from the Jap version to English. Lots of missions, lots of stories, lots of moves and magics, lots of enemies... Filled with humorous and cute characters, its hard to give it a miss. Though i myself dun really like turn based games.

Simple concept of unlocking and entering the Exit. N+ is an action cum puzzle game. All you need to do is to avoid all the bobby traps and get to the Exit. Sounds easy, but u will need to crack your brains on how to get past the evily designed levels.

Similar to the PC version, but the DS version focus only on the Creature stage. Go round do quest, evolve, save friends. Interesting worlds to explore.

Action game on DS. This time round your get to use light sabre moves on the touch screen, as well as your learnt powers like Push and Pull. Keep you occupied for some time, but i find the framerate drop a bit irritating.

Read the above two links. Someone seemed to have found a prove to my previous suspicion liao haha. Over that few days me and gang watched the forums with interest as the fighting and warring and bleeding went on. Haha more like a kayppo aunty poking into other's business and gossipping away. Whether or not its pure silver dun really matter cos my buddies are either not using it or had found a much better substitution.

It seems like quite a lot in the forums agreed with the TS it isnt pure silver. There are some points where they argue about the definition of 'pure'. I remembered reading one who said his own experiment dun tally, while a few others said they can easily reproduce the same result on their own. Some say the photo is faked. Some say wrong testing method. I cant remb all that i had read. But two very common response really irritated me.

1. It does not make a difference what material its using, as long as you like it.
No one is saying it sounds bad, TS dint mention that he dint like the sound or what. Saying that material dun make a diff as long as you like the sound is off-topic.

The point lies in if the shopkeeper claims that its pure silver and its actually not, its cheating and the TS is concerned about that. Its more of a moral issue.

2. You should verify your queries with the shopkeeper, he will know the answer.
Its the same as asking Steve Jobs if Mac is truly superior than Windows. He most probably tell you it is, and will promote Mac. Promotion of a product, more or less, will cover up its flaws and brings out its shines, and sometimes to the point of lying, misleading and cheating.

I was buying a PnS camera, when i asked the salesman if a particular model can take Full HD videos. He told me yes and point to the Full HD logo. But upon checking up the specs, it says it outputs photo at Full HD, and not taking video at Full HD. Promotion sometimes give wrong info due to the lack of knowledge of the promoter.

If we assume the shopkeeper in this case is also the promoter, and the promoter can
1. Lie, mislead, cheat, and give bias statements promote his product
2. Be misfed with or left out from information of the product

Can this promoter/shopkeeper still be a reliable source to verify your doubts? May or may not, cos point 1 and 2 in the previous para are subjective. Cross referencing from other sources as well as getting scientific facts and proves would be a much better idea.

And in this case the shown experiment seems to contradict what the promoter says. It has more value since physics cannot run away. Even if it does, it wun be as far as loose verbal claims, i guess. Since quite a number said the experiment was true when they repeated it on their own, the experiment shown by the TS can be trusted to a large extent.

Thus i think its a very very stupid move to ask the shopkeeper to verify the truth.

From what i read..all these are caused by fanboyism. May not be true, but thats what me and co all agreed. One even said he is damn scared of what the future of Singapore will be. Educated students being blinded and mislead so easily.

Fanboyism is like a religion. More like a cult? The key personnel brings interest into a particular area, then the fanboys follow in and the population increase like siao. Then sooner or later the fanboys totally become loyal to the key personnel. They believe in all his words and continue venture into this contained interest area.

They never realized that there are more when u look out of this contained area, and never realized this contained area is controlled and altered. In this contained area, outside or non-favorable information will be filtered.

The fanboys are unable to think by themselves and most of the time rely on a particular set direction. They just move along while getting leeched by the key personnel off their money and sanity.

The key personnel is god and they pray to him. The controlled interest area is the religion itself. The fanboys are the follower. This is the foundation of a cult. This is happening to JC and poly students in SG, who will be the main workforce. Good luck to the future of SG man..good luck..

Another bo liao project, which works. The traditional portable fan irritates me - not windy enuff. Thus i hook up a 2.35W PC cooling fan to 6V of batteries to give me the rush of air when im sweating in camp. It works well. Looking into a better casing and improved portability.

Thumbscrew for mini3

Ok i think its not really a thumbscrew, its an allen socket head cap screw with knurled side. But it does its job well - to tighten and remove with fingers; when tighten, its enuff to hold the face plates securely to the casing.

And i dun see the use of tightening all four sides on the back face plate, i think two is enough. New mini3s will come with them, either four of them, or two of them with the other two holes sealed or other options, that i will decide later.

For those interested to get them, contact me. They aint dirt cheap so prolly you got to pay a bit.
